This reimagining of Alexandria took over 2.5 years. This was an enormous team effort of over 40 developers, massive shout out to the entire team. You can find the list of everyone on our website - www.ffix-memoria.com
My role was Lead Environment Artist and later Creative Director for the project. With regards to cinematics my role was mostly set dressing in two methods. One was adjusting the gameplay environment for cinematic needs based on our sequences, and the other was building custom set pieces for shots that were taking place outside the gameplay space.
Camila created storyboards for the cinematics and then Colin set up cameras directly in UE5 based on those storyboards. From here we were able to iterate and make adjustments based on the teams needs as cinematics involved all departments from art to animation to VO. A large majority of our cinematics leveraged the environment we were already building so as we polished Alexandria, our cinematics would benefit. Some shots however, such as the closing cinematic and the airship shots in the intro required custom sets to be created.
